| About Us
Go Native is a partnership between agencies, nurseries, landscapers and community volunteers dedicated to the promotion of native plants as part of a comprehensive effort to preserve the natural ecology of the Wood River Valley. The Go Native project provides an educational resource for responsible stewardship of the natural beauty of a sustainable native landscape.
The Go Native Project's home base is the Sawtooth Botanical Garden on Highway 75, between Ketchum and Hailey.
The project started as an offspring of the 2010 winter Master Naturalist training program cosponsored by Environmental Resource Center (ERC), Idaho Fish and Game, Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA), and Wood River Land Trust.
Our logo features a Columbine flower. The blossoms appear in spring and early summer. Depending on the variety they can be 3 inches across, come in various contrasting colors, and the plant size can range from 2 to 4 feet in height and approximately 18 inches across. Hummingbirds like all varieties and many birds enjoy the seed pods. Columbines are very easy to start. They develop seed pods that will cause them to multiply in our garden, and attract birds.
You may ask 'what is native'? Columbines are native because you may find them growing in the wild in our surrounding mountains. We consider as native any plant that is drought tolerant, grows easily and naturally in our climate, and contributes to a sustainable, healthy environment. |
